In February 2019, Kecia Barkawi was appointed as Deputy Chair of the STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) Special Interest Group on Business Families.

The Business Families SIG provides a community for practitioners who work with business families and a platform for education, training, continued professional development and the expansion of field networks and support. The group focuses on what makes business families distinct, their particular challenges, and how best to address these. The group aims to marshal expertise, promote best practice and champion the practice area.
